DENSITY MASS and VOLUME HELP PLEASE !?

copper bar sinks | Posted by admin
Nov 30 2009

please help me with these six problems just write the number you are answering and answer it :) person who answers most gets choosen as best answer thanks!!

plese show your work

1) A copper penny has a mass of 3.1 g and a volume of 0.35 cm to the 3rd power.Whats the density of copper?

2) A weather ballon is inflated to a volume of 2.2 x 10(to the 3rd power)L with 37.4 g of helium. Whats the density of helium in grames per liter?

3) A plastic ball with a volume of 19.7 cm(to the 3rd power) has a mass of 15.8g. What is its density? Would the ball sink or float in a container od gasoline.

4) A shiny gold colored bar of metal wieghing 57.3 g has the volume of 4.7 cm(to the 3rd power). Is the metal bar pure gold?
the density of gold is 19.3 g/cm(to the 3rd pwer)

5) the mass of a cube of iron is 255g iron has a density of 7.87 g/cm(to the 3rd power) what is the mass of a cube of lead that has the same dimensions
the desity of lead is 11.4g/cm(to the 3rd power)
6) At 20 degrees celcius the density of air is 1.20 g/L nitrogens density is 1.17 g/L oxygens density is 1.33 g/L

A. describe the motion if a balloon filled with oxygen and a ballon filled with nitrogen were released in the air

B. air is made up of mainly oxygen and nitrogen which gas is the main component of air explain your thinking please
mass = density / volume i know i need help on the problems
i need the answers you can say get help on everything in the topic homework help that defeats the purpose of HELP

1) 3.1g / 0.35cm^3 = 8.857 g/cm^3
2) First, 2.2 x 10 x 10 x 10 (or just 2.2 x 1000) then divide 37.4g / 2200 cm^3 and that equals 0.017 g/cm^3
3) 15.8g / 19.7cm^3 = 0.8g/cm^3
4) 57.3g / 4.7cm^3 = 12.19 which would make the answer a no
5) First, 255g / 7.87g/cm^3 = 32.4cm^3 Then, 11.4g/cm^3 x 32.4cm^3 = 369.377g which is your final answer
6) a) The nitrogen is less dense so the balloon would probably float better/faster than the oxygen
b) Air is made up of mostly oxygen. Oxygen is more dense than nitrogen so it probably makes up most of air.

That was fun. I’m not totally sure about my answers for 6 though.

when its really cold out, how many faucets do you need to leave on at night to keep your pipes from bursting?

is just the kitchen enough? or should i leave a bathroom or both bathroom sinks running? we have copper pipes. we live in an older house that has been mostly remodeled, except for the plumbing.

Are the pipes run through uninsulated walls?

The pipes will only burst if they get cold enough to freeze. If they’re all inside a warm, insulated house, it doesn’t matter how cold it gets outside. The warmth of the house will keep them from freezing.

If you have sections of pipe that could be exposed to temperatures below freezing, then you should consider insulating the pipes and heating either the pipes or the area around them. If that’s not possible, then you can try the old "leave a faucet running" trick, but it may not be effective and it’s an incredible waste of water.

If you do leave faucets running, you’ll need to open whatever faucets will keep water flowing through the sections of pipe exposed to the freezing temperatures. If there’s a run of pipe to the kitchen that goes through an area that will be below freezing temperature, then you’d leave the kitchen faucet on. If there’s also a run of pipe to the bathroom that goes through an area that will be below freezing, then you’d leave a bathroom faucet on, too.

But it’s far better to take the steps needed to make sure the pipes aren’t exposed to freezing temperatures in the first place.

What is the best way to remove a compression ring from a copper pipe?

copper kitchen sinks | Posted by admin
Nov 30 2009

I am replacing a shut off valve under the kitchen sink and the old shut off valve has a compression fitting. I tried to remove it and replace it with a new compression ring that came with the shut off valve. It won’t budge and the copper piping is to short to cut it off. I need to remove the old one. Any ideas?? Thanks for your help out there..

Those are annoying little pests, but look at the compression ring carefully, it may not need to be removed if there are no dents or gouges in it….and if it is in bad shape, you have no choice but to cut the pipe and put a new one on because compression rings are just that, they compress around the soft copper and aren’t meant to come off. Sorry for the bad news, but look it over and try to reuse it, if you can.

Good Luck!

My plumber says that because my bathroom sink vibrates and rattles when I turn on the hot water that I need?

copper bathroom sinks | Posted by admin
Nov 27 2009

to replace all the copper pipes in my ceiling to both bathrooms, kitchen and washing machine with some type of plastic. It will cost $4200. Does this sound right. The home is about 50 yr. in deep S. Texas
I questioned my plumber, based on all the good answers I got, about redoing all the pipes. He says…My pipes are not rigid copper, they are rolled copper and that our water is very bad on the pipes. Also, since I am going to replace faucets in the sink and shower with the new type that they will put more pressure on the old pipes. Says now he can just replace the main water lines and not all of them. I am so confused. Maybe I should just wait, but I don’t want a bunch of leaks in my attic ruining my ceilings, floors and furniture! I am trying to talk to more plumbers, but everyone is sooo bush since Hurricand Dolly that it is hard to find anyone to come for weeks.
oops, should be busy and Hurricane Dolly

It is probably one of two things happening. The water flowing through the pipes make the copper pipes move if they wern’t secured to the wall. The other posibility is the hot water faucet has a loose or broken washer and it is making the sink and pipes vibrate. It doesn’t sound like you have to have the pipes replaced.

how to fix a hot water leak under my kitchen sink?

copper kitchen sinks | Posted by admin
Nov 27 2009

my hot water copper pipe is leaking under my kitchen sink and i have no hot water to wash my dishes cause i had to turn it off how do i fix this leak its a bad one its spraying water lol

Find out WHY and WHERE it’s leaking. Could be as simple as the compression fitting needs tightening. Could be a solder joint that’s sprung a leak, which require a plumber to repair.
